Try A New Kind Of Goa Holiday
All my holiday plans with friends invariably turn into drinking, eating, or partying plans. Before I know it, a friend snaps open a bottle of wine and we’re sitting and chatting and drinking. Sometimes we’ll go shopping to mix it up, but then we end up eating and drinking somewhere else. This time I wanted something different for us so I took the trouble of making the plans.
Beach please
We were going back to our annual vacation haunt: Goa. That’s when I thought, you’ve eaten here, you’ve partied here, and you’ve gone to all the beaches. But have you ever tried biking in Goa? I knew many people did it, just rented bikes and thundered along the coast, but it was a first for us. And lucky for us, we were heading to Goa for Christmas, so we expected it wouldn’t be too hot to motorbike.
Hot wheels
After signing up for a package deal, my friends and I journeyed for three days. They thought of everything — a road mechanic, support vehicles, hotels on the way and meals. All we had to do was sit back and enjoy the ride. We drove along the brilliant sandy beaches, backwaters, happy hamlets ...
... and the tropical palm trees. We watched the sky meet the sea in the distance. Stopped for sorpotel. Felt the breeze in our hair, smelled the salt from the Arabian Sea. We even drove our Royal Enfields through forests and into little villages.
Never too late
I don’t know why we hadn’t gone biking in Goa before! The roads are great and we could have avoided nagging drivers, our cars getting dirty and worrying about parking. Also, bikes are so much easier for navigating through any kind of traffic which you might encounter at Baga or sometimes in Panjim.
Another day in paradise
After the bike ride, we were hungry for more new experiences. My online research during planning empowers to me to chime in with a few suggestions. And just like that we went night kayaking in Goa! It’s not actually in the late night, but it’s after the sun goes down and the moon is up. Kayaking in Goa is fun during the day, but at night it’s totally different. Being on a dark ocean is a little frightening, but we weren’t that far from the shore, and we could see the lights and hear the music from the shacks.
Shift of perspective
The moonlight shone on our faces and on the sea. As we kayaked, we could see the stars coming out above and reflected in the endless black ocean beneath. Two hours later, it was time to go back. After we made our way back to the beach, we drank a pint of beer and watched the lasers that some hawkers were selling, create patterns in the sky. In spite of no pina coladas or rave nights, I felt happy about our trip. It was wholly unforgettable.
Shewta and her friends went to Goa for yet another group holiday, and then Simmi decided to turn it into a totally unique experience by adding some adventure to the itinerary like Biking and Kayaking in Goa.
