Driving on a race track is a thrilling experience, so Track Day is an exciting time. There’s nothing like the awesome feeling of burning rubber on the road. You just got a speedy new vehicle and you’re excited to try it out. Or, you’re an old hand, just giving it another go at another High-Performance Driving Event (HPDE). The sky is clear. The air is fresh. You’ve got your instructor, your circuit, your track. It’s time to drive. But, like many things in life, high-performance motorsports are unpredictable. High-performance driving requires a heightened awareness and the ability to manage millions of tiny adjustments. The capacity to process a large amount of information quickly, competently, and carefully, is a prerequisite to stellar performance while behind the wheel. Even experts, with tens of thousands of hours of practice, sometimes find themselves in trouble.
Because of the risk, and the situation, regular auto insurance coverage does not cover driving on the racetrack. Within a policy, there are provisions excluding “track,” “high performance,” and “racing ...
... or speed contest events,” which have been added incrementally over a period of decades, as track-related claims have piled up.
Track Day Insurance covers physical damage to your vehicle due to collision or mechanical breakdown while on the track. It does not cover third-party injury, property damage, or cosmetic damage that is not due to direct impact, fire, or transportation costs. Your premium takes into account the make and model of your vehicle, your age, the circuit on which you will be driving, and the event in which you are participating. If this event has a low history of accidents, you may benefit from a lower premium.
Track day insurance usually does not cover liability. In the event that a competitor sues you for an incident that occurs on the track, track day insurance will not cover you the way an auto policy does. However, XINSURANCE does cover personal liability. We will stand with you if you are named in a lawsuit.
Also, track day policies typically cover your vehicle according to its agreed value - the value that you and your insurer agree your vehicle is worth, prior to purchasing your policy. This is different from an auto policy, which usually pays a vehicle claim based on that vehicle’s Kelly Blue Book value, which is the value determined by Kelley Blue Book, a vehicle valuation company that serves as the standard within the U.S. auto industry. Thus, if you have made modifications to your vehicle, your track day policy will take those modifications into account.
XINSURANCE provides customized coverage using an all-in-one approach to help you attain insurance by employing a team of underwriters, claims managers, policy services staff, and risk managers who identify gaps, exclusions within coverage, and offer solutions for specialty insurance protection. We provide flexible underwriting, risk management expertise, and a 24/7 claims hotline.
XINSURANCE defends your interests and protects your financial stability.
There are an estimated 451,000 racers involved in motorsport. Thousands of crashes occur each year. You can never guess what will happen when you turn a sharp corner or pick up to passing speed. You want to make sure you take all necessary precautions when it comes to covering vehicle damage.
