The scientific name of fats is lipids and they come from the food that we ingest. There are two types of lipids: the good, and the bad lipids. The bad lipids or LDL (Low Density Lipoproteins) come from meat fat and dairy products, while the good lipids or HDL (High Density Lipoproteins) come from vegetable and fish oil. If you eat more of the bad lipids and do not burn them off by spending them as energy, they are deposited in the adipose tissue, in blood vessels and in other body parts and can cause disease. Not all fats are bad though, the good fats are essential in the production of steroid hormones, which are essential to proper development of the body.
