There are two types of health insurance in Nigeria, One is privately owned, while the other is a Government-owned Health Insurance Scheme.

The difference between the two is simple. The former provides insurance cover for those that are not covered by the latter, while the latter which is the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), was introduced under the Act 35 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Government of Nigeria, to allow people have access to proper health care at a reasonably subsidized rate. However, registering for health insurance from either of the two is quite easy.
