Tony Dorsett was born April 7, 1954, in Rochester, Pennsylvania. Tony formed a bond with his mother at a very early age. She ran the household and carted the children to the Methodist church every Sunday. Tony's dad was named West Dorsett. He worked in a steel mill for thirty years. Tony Dorsett grew up with a very athletic build and was often clocked at amazing speeds much faster than his peers. Dorsett gained 1,034 yards as a junior in high school. He took his skills to college and played for the University of Pittsburgh where he continued his football dominance.

Dorsett was a college football running back at the University of Pittsburgh. He helped lead them to a national title in 1976, picking up the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award, the Walter Camp Award (Player of the Year), and the UPI Player of the Year along the way. He rushed for over 1940 yards which led the nation that year. He also finished his college career with 6,082 total rushing yards, then an NCAA record.

His record with the Panthers was legendary. He is arguably one of the greatest running backs in the history of college football. He was the ...
... first player to win the college football championship one year and then win the Super Bowl the next, when the Cowboys beat the Denver Broncos 27-10 to win Super Bowl XII.

In the 1977 NFL draft, Tony Dorsett was selected in the first round by the Dallas Cowboys. He played with them through 1987. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards in eight of his first nine seasons. In 1981 he rushed for 1646 yards. This was his most productive season. In 1988 Dorsett was traded to the Denver Broncos in 1988 after rushing for a career total yards of 12,033. Dorsett was elected to both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1994. Tony also went in to the Dallas Cowboy Ring of Honor in 1994 as well.
