Workplace diversity refers the people of different ethnic or cultural background working within the same organization. The US and other countries initially weren't ready for this diversity. People tended to be discriminated based on their ethnic backgrounds. This led to one of the major problems in working abroad. People were always talked against and even employers at times paid lesser to someone of different ethnic background. Working age populations of many developed countries around the world have left them with no choice but to hire people of other backgrounds and regions. This work force diversity has created a different working environment for the organizations which have embraced it.
There are many acts which are to be complied with while working in the developed countries as bigger organizations. There are laws made for the disable as well as the minorities. One of the most important and recognized benefits of work place diversity is the quality of work it creates. There are many instances when products are made for the worldwide audience. Manufacturing products may be very different for each region of the world; we can take example of cars. Cars are usually made differently for each continent. There are technology products which may be targeted at the whole world. People from different backgrounds make things more thorough and comprehensive. These products usually do well in a wider world market. Apart from products, the culture of the organization is greatly impacted by the people of different backgrounds. A place with people from different backgrounds tends to be more diverse in its approach towards solving problems. People from different cultures, each contribute differently. This gives an edge to the organization of learning from the different approaches to solve similar problems.
There are times when organizations want to expand out beyond their existing markets. They want to open offices in other areas. For that, they need people. Strategically maintaining workforce diversity is also a very good way to get benefited from the work place diversity. Work place diversity is very important for organizations to grow and expand on continuous basis.
