Just like the Olympians that compete, there is usually an incredible story that follows a sport leader. The same is true for Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Nogueira was run over by a truck at age 11, after which he fell into a coma for four days, lost a rib, lost part of his liver, and still somehow survived to tell the story. He now bears a scar on his lower back from this accident, and has been given the nickname Big Nog. He is considered a legend in most MMA circles and is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was born on June 2, 1976 in Vitoria da Conquista, Brazil. Nogueira began training in the Judo fighting style at the age of 5 and started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the age of 14 under Ricardo de la Riva Goded. When he reached the age of 23 year old, he achieved black belt status in both arts. When he was young, Nogueira also trained in boxing and took up the sport with the Cuban National Boxing Team. Nogueira made his MMA debut on June 12, 1999 when we had a submission victory over David Dodd at WEF 6.

After he won the King of Kings 40 man tournament in 2000, Antonio ...
... won his first PRIDE debut against Gary Goodridge, in which he submitted. He then defeated Heath Herring two fights later for the PRIDE heavyweight belt and won five fights straight after that. After these fights was the first time he met up with Fedor Emelianenko, but lost his belt via decision by way of grounding and pounding. He ended up having a rematch against Fedor which ended in a no contest to an accidental headbut that opened a large cut on Fedor's head. Nogueira was again destroyed by his Russian adversary via the ground and pound.

Antonio won the next five of his six fights in PRIDE before the organization flopped and he joined the UFC. In his first fight in the UFC, he took on heath Herring, which he had fought before. Herring nearly knocked him out in the first fight. He then took out Tim Sylvia with a guillotine choke and became the first fighter to hold a PRIDE and UFC championship belts.

Noguiera was a coach opposite of Frank Mir on the Ultimate Fighter 8, which is a reality TV show. Both of the TUF contacts were won by fighters on his team. Nogueira lost to Mir at UFC 92 via TKO. He admitted to having a staph infection the night before the fight and blames the loss on his condition. Antonio has a twin brother named Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, which is also a pro MMA fighter.

Noguiera is considered to be one of the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighters to ever fight in the MMA. He is a lethal danger every time he hits the ground with an opponent. He also has solid boxing skills and is known for his brutal toughness. Recently he has had a bit more trouble against opponents that he has in the past.
