There are many varieties of jazz shoes available. The shoes you choose can depend on the type of dancing you are doing as well as the shape of your feet. These types of shoes can vary in both style and material.

If you are taking a particular class in jazz dancing, you should check with your teacher before making any purchases. He or she may have a preference for the type of shoe that you wear. Some teachers want you to wear a certain type of jazz shoe while others may prefer stockings or bare feet.

You can find jazz shoes in either canvas or leather. Obviously, the leather type will cost more than canvas. However, they will also last you longer which is important. The worst thing is when you find a shoe you really like dancing in and it wears out quickly.

Jazz shoes are meant to support you and keep your feet comfortable. Ideally, they will provide especially good support in the arches. You should be able to easily flex your feet and they should give you a good amount of spring. You also need to be able to make turns easily in the shoes.

Generally, types of jazz shoes include ones that are truly ...
... shoes, sandal-shoes, sandals, dance trainers or sneakers. Which is going to be best for you is going to depend on your feet. Different people find different shoes to be more comfortable.

The comfort level is one of the most important factors and a big part of this is how well the shoes fit. If you are not one hundred percent sure on the size, try one slightly larger and one slightly smaller to feel the difference. Also be sure that you can return them if you end up not being happy with the fit. It is sometimes hard to tell until you start really moving in them.

Jazz shoes can vary in the type of soles as well. Which is best for you will depend partially on the type of floor you plan on dancing on. Rubber soles work really well with cement or wood floors that are uncovered. If you plan on dancing on covered floors, you might want to look into suede soled shoes which can be special ordered if the style you prefer normally comes only with rubber soles.

Some soles are called split-soles. These can make it easier to point and to flex. Other choices exist in terms of the types of insoles, inserts and arch supports. You can find ones that are either high-rise or low rise as well.

Heels can differ as well in terms of thickness and how well they absorb shock. Shock absorption is key, as you will be working hard in these shoes. You do not want to risk injury and keep yourself from being able to dance.

Different people have different shaped feet. What is comfortable for one person may be extremely uncomfortable for someone else. It is critical that you not just listen to someone else. You can listen to advice but make sure you try different styles on to be sure which is best for you. You want to enjoy every minute that you dance.
