My Surprise At The Tour De France

It started out as an innocent comment but I never imagined I would be walking the streets of Paris two days later. I had never been but had always wanted to go. For me it was one of those things you did with your lover not a professional cycling team.

I had heard of the Tour de France as most people have but knew absolutely nothing about cycling, so when out of the blue my friend asked me to come along to host VIP's for a test team it was surreal. I was only required to find my own way to Paris and the rest was covered. As it was only an hour by plane I decided there was no way I could pass up the opportunity. So I searched the Internet for a last minute flight and next thing I knew I was on the plane.

There was excitement in the air as I arrived in Paris. It was very apparent that something big was happening. I remember thinking when I saw someone wearing their Oakley jawbone sunglasses that this was truly the crème de le crème of cycling. The style and grace of the glasses was second to none and were befitting the reputation of a city that was known for style.

... the day doing all the normal tourist things. I got up at 8am and started walking and discovered Paris on foot. Everywhere I went I noticed more people in their Oakley jawbone sunglasses. With the streets being lined with barricades in preparation for the end of the tour people everywhere were showing the signs of excitement sportsmanship. I suppose it was a bit of a catwalk with name brands popping up everywhere from shirts to bicycles and even the Oakley jawbone sunglasses. After spending an amazing day sightseeing I was taken out for dinner and then to a pub that was situated on the terrace of a hotel. I watched in amazement as I had the most perfect view of the Eiffel tower from the rooftop. Then to my surprise it began to sparkle like a shiny diamond. It was a spectacle I will never forget and I suppose would have topped a perfect romantic evening. I understood now how this was the city of love. I went to bed that night trying to digest the day I had and prepare myself for hosting the team owners with their guests and families the next day as we watched the tour from the finish line.

The sun was shining as we sat waiting for the cyclists to arrive on the Champs de Elysee. It was bright outside and I now noticed several more people wearing their Oakley jawbone sunglasses. As the test team emerged we all cheered with delight. As the race finished one of the team managed to win the green jersey and the owners were thrilled. As the day came to an end I was approached by one of the team owners. He thanked me for my help and handed me a box. He said it was a token from the team. Inside I found some Oakley Jawbone sunglasses. Now every time I wear them I think of the special weekend I had at the Tour de France.
