When you work on Microsoft Outlook email client or personal information manager with IMAP/POP3 accounts, sent and received mails are stored in PST (Personal Storage Table) file along with other items like Calendar and Contacts. To protect significant and confidential information in a PST file, you can set a password. However, if you do not remember the password of your PST file, you lose access of critical data in the file. A few years ago, Microsoft invented a tool for upgrading the older versions of PST file to make them usable with later versions, called pst19upg.exe. (4) After completion of the process, rename original PST file.

(5) Type pst19upg.ex -i filename.psx at command prompt and press Enter key.

(6) It creates a new PST file that is password-free.

(7) Run Inbox Repair Tool against the recovered PST file and select Repair option. Do not create backup of the file if you are prompted to do so.

(8) Open the resulted file in Microsoft Outlook application using File-> Open-> Outlook Data File menu.

However, you should remember that the pst19upg.exe utility does not work with the Unicode format PST file of Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. In such circumstances, you need to use third-party password recovery tools to recover Lost PST Password.
