It currently has more than 45 million members in over 120 countries worldwide. In Mexico there are currently YMCA organizations in 10 cities, with sports centers, special education centers, centers for children and migrant children. If the plans are carried out, this will make Playa del Carmen one of only a few cities in Mexico to have a YMCA.

The development reflects the fact that there are many different levels of commitment to the continuous development and improvement of the Playa del Carmen community as a whole. While Playa del Carmen has been growing tremendously as a favorite luxury beachfront real estate destination for Americans, Canadians, Italians and people from many other countries, part of what has distinguished Playa del Carmen's lifestyle atmosphere and real estate growth opportunities.

The strong development of benefits, such as sports facilities and well developed public access to the beach, for working class communities in Playa del Carmen have made the relationship between foreigner and local a relatively positive one, developing a healthy lifestyle through out the city.
