For whatever reason, Germany seems to be last on the list when it comes to picking holiday destinations doesn''t it? I mean, where would you automatically assume most tourists went on holiday, Spain or Germany? Exactly

Maybe it because we are too similar to each other that we consider each other places to avoid? I mean, our languages share the same roots, our histories closely follow each others, we think the weather has to be fairly similar; so maybe it is because there are too many things in common and we don''t want to be reminded of home?

In my opinion this is ridiculous. We have a booming tourism industry in the UK and if our damp little island can spark interest then why not Germany?

I certainly will. I had one of the best holidays of my entire life in the city of Munich, an absolute haven for tourists wanting a bit of everything. Culture, history, nightlife, relaxation; this city has each in abundance and stands up to any other European city in charm and experience.

The main reason to go to Munich is the world famous, Oktoberfest. Here you will wile away hours getting absolutely trollied with ...
... lederhosen clad barmaids. However, if this isn''t quite up your street there are plenty of other things to be getting on with.

Munich was founded by Duke Henry the Lion in 1158, and soon became the seat of the Wittelsbach dynasty, who ruled the duchy, electorate and kingdom of Bavaria until the end of WWI. Their patronage of the arts and extensive collections provided the basis for this affluent city''s world-class museums, theatres and galleries, many of which survive today.

Nightlife in Munich is a huge draw as well. The Hofbr?uhaus brewery is Munich''s answer to Dublin''s Guinness factory, Kultfabrik (formerly known as Kunstpark Ost) and Optimolwerke are both former industrial compounds converted to host many different discos and pubs and there is a thriving gay quarter located in the borough Isarvorstadt, surrounding the Staatstheater am G?rtnerplatz.

That said, there is one reason that trumps all others. Price. Munich is cheap. Octopus Travel have some incredible deals on Munich hotels at the moment and it is not hard to find a cheap airfare across. Heck, even the train would do. You wont regret it.
