Retrieving Files Lost Due To Removal Of System Files

Sometimes situations arise when one needs to delete certain files from the Windows hard drive. Reasons for deleting files could be to free up disk space or to increase performance of your system, or it could be anything else.
You must have come across a situation when you try to delete a file from Windows hard drive and to your surprise an error message pop-ups. The error message says that
“File is in use by another application/user or it’s a Windows system file and could not be deleted.”
Such situations occur due to some damage in your Windows hard drive and as a result, Operating System cannot locate the specified file or shows wrong information about it. Damage to the hard drive leaves all the files and folders inaccessible. But you can retrieve deleted files using appropriate third party data recovery software.

In case the file is in use by any other application, start Windows from boot CD and then remove the file using command prompt. Follow given below methods to delete a file that is in use by another application:
Start your system with Windows Startup disk.
At command prompt, change file path.
Type del <file name> and then press enter.
If you performing this operation, you must ensure that the deletion of this file would not damage Windows in any way. If you cannot determine safe deletion of the file, create backup copy of file and then remove it.
If in case the problem is with Windows system file, you should not remove it. The system files are critical parts of operating system and you should not delete them. Deleting the Windows system file may land you up in catastrophic situation and you might need to re-install the Operating System.
