Aha - The Star Ingredient Of Skincare Products
Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) are the most talked about ingredient in skincare products. These fruit acids are added in small quantities in most of the beauty products. Over the years, AHAs have become the chief ingredient of skincare products. If there is no AHA in the product, consumers drop it like a hot potato.
AHA was invented in the 90s. It is the magic mantra in the beauty business today. AHAs have been found to improve the condition of the skin. They impart a healthy glow and enhance the beauty. People using skincare products that contain AHAs are all praise for them.
AHAs are present in natural form in a variety of products. You can find them as citrus acid in citrus fruits, as lactic acid in milk, as tartaric acid in wine, and as malic acid in apples. The craze for AHAs is not new. Women have been using this wonder ingredient since ages. Cleopatra is said to use sour milk (that contains lactic acid) for bathing. French ladies are known to apply wine (tartaric acid) on their faces for supple, smooth, and flawless skin. At that time, alpha-hydroxy acids were not known. Today, we know the secret.
Working ...
... Of AHAs
Protein bonds hold together the dead skin cells on your face's surface. AHAs present in skincare products break down these bonds. Consequently, the dead skin cells loosen up and are easy to remove. The cells that are "alive" underneath the skin then move to the surface, giving your face, a youthful glow and a clean appearance. AHAs also open blocked pores. When you take beauty services that use AHAs, you'd notice that the fine lines around your mouth or under the eyes or forehead disappear or get lightened. Your skin tone also shows improvement. But, this happens only after a week or two of treatment.
Skincare products containing AHAs are best used as creams for treatment of skin problems. One of the tips to get the best results from these fruit acids is applying the product before lathering your daily moisturizer. You might feel a mild tingling sensation in the beginning but this goes away in a few seconds. You, however, must not use AHAs on delicate areas like lips and eyes. As a precautionary measure, test the product containing AHA before applying it. If you got highly sensitive skin, AHA may not suit you.
Hot Tip
When trying out a new product, pick a small bottle. Test the product on a small patch of your skin, preferably on your forearm, before applying on the face. Remember, the particular product might work wonders for your friend, but not for you. Choosing skincare products can be tricky. But once you hit on the right one, you're on your way to eternal beauty!
