In ancient times, precious stones were believed to endow people with supernatural powers. The Greeks used Gemstone Jewelry for healing diseases while Rome keeps in the home to boost harmony. In India astrologer advice the people to wear precious stones to protect them from negative energies. Today we are aware of the properties and the health benefits stones possess.

Here are the four most popular fables about gemstones -

A. How amethyst got its name - Amethyst Jewelry is associated with healing powers. It is said that wearing the stone heals you from emotional trauma and drunkenness.

This tale comes from Rome. On a day when Bacchus the god of wine was agitated, a young maiden was walking to the temple of Diana. Drunken Bacchus planned to avenge the person he encountered the next. The unlucky maidan was the one who crossed his path. He released his guards - two tigers upon her.

The goddess Diana appeared, she turned Amethyst into a pure stone to protect her from dying an ugly death. Bacchus was full of remorse. In order to mend his actions, he poured wine over the stone giving ...
... it the purple colour.

B. The Silver Hoof - The story is a part of ‘The Malachite Casket’ - a collection of folk tales by the Russian writer Pavel Bazhov (1650-1705). During that time the writers collected inspirations from the age-old stores narrated by the framers and the servants.

It goes this way-
Once existed a goat (sometimes interchanged with a deer) which had silver hoof. When it stomps the feet on the ground sparks were produced, which created gemstones. White sparks resulted in diamonds, blue sapphire, and red ruby. If it jumped on both the foot two gemstones were created. The protagonist of the tale was a poor girl Daryonka. She was adopted by an old hunter in the village. She loved her cat Muryonka dearly.

One fine night the goat arrived at the girl’s home, plays with Muryonka. Their home is flooded with gemstones. The old man started filling his bag in the stones. Soon Daryonka finds her cat is gone. Though the man had all the riches in the world he couldn’t say happy because Daryonka missed her pet every day. The tale teaches one of the biggest lessons of life i.e. the worth of happiness is more than money.

C. Indian Legend of Vala - Amongst the Indian a famous fable is the legend of Vala. Vala was a demon who removed Indra, the god of thunder (also the king of heaven) from his throne. To stop him from the ruling, other gods tricked him into performing a ritual. He had to sacrifice his own body. After the dead he became pure. The body transformed into a variety of gemstones. The skin turned into yellow sapphires, blood into ruby and so on. The gemstones fell on the earth. The gemstones had healing power. Rubies were used for curing blood diseases, yellow sapphire for skin problems. etc. People still trust in the healing power of the gemstones. They are often seen wearing Single Stone Rings as per their zodiac. Additionally, Brass Jewelry is used for curing bone diseases.

D. White Cat - Written by the French tale writer Countess D'Aulnoy, it one of his most memorable tale. A young prince is searching for his father in the forest. Raindrops start falling, he looks for a place to take shelter. Soon he finds a castle with doors embedded with red garnet and corals. He enters the castles and finds a coat studded with emerald. He walked through the hallway where a white cat dressed in beautiful clothes is standing. They eat a feast together. Prince liked to spend the time with the cat. Even after returning to his kingdom he visited the caste thrice.

At last the cat reveals she was a princess under a curse. She asks the prince to chop her head. He agreed. The white cat returned to the real person she was, the princess.
