Microsoft Outlook allows users to create a password for Personal Storage Folders (PSTs). This allows the user to prevent his/her PSTs from being used by a malicious user. The password can also be changed in case the user feels that a malicious user has identified his/her password. While changing PST Passwords is a common technique, remembering them is a difficult task. In situations where the user forgets his/her correct PST Password, the data saved in the PST file becomes inaccessible. To overcome such lost PST file passwords scenarios, a user can restore the PST file (which is non-password protected) from an alternative backup. But in cases where no such file exists and the user wants to access the password-protected PST file, then he needs to use an advanced third-party PST Password Recovery software.

To illustrate the above scenario, consider a situation wherein you create a large PST password with numerous alphabets. The password contains both capital and small alphabets, numerical digits, and special characters. After creating PST password, you do not access it for next one month. However, when you try to open your ...
... PST file, it displays the below error message:

The password you have typed is incorrect. Retype the password.

The same error message pops up each time you try to input a password. The data saved in the PST file becomes inaccessible after the above error message appears.

Cause:

The root cause for the occurrence of the above error message is forgetting the exact password. You might be entering the password with wrong sequence. For example, the numerical values that need to be inserted at last are being entered in between the password.

Resolution:

To resolve the above error message and to access the PST file data, you need to follow the below steps:

(1) Erase the PST Password using Microsoft pst19upg.exe utility. While this utility helps you to remove the password, it can also corrupt PST file.

(2) To prevent such cases, you need to recover PST file data using an advanced Password Recovery application. Such tools use advanced scanning techniques to Recover PST Password which is lost or missing.

Stellar Phoenix Outlook Password Recovery is a powerful and comprehensive solution to recover missing PST passwords. The PST Password Recovery utility supports recovery of PST file passwords created in MS Outlook 2007, 2003, 2002 and 2000.
