THE TRAIL

MANALI- JOBRI – CHIKA CAMPSITE

From Manali you take a bus or hire a vehicle to reach Jobri. From Jobri begins the gentle, beautiful but tricky climb, with the tall pine trees, apple orchards, chestnut trees for company. The subsequent uphill and downhill trek, dotted with alpine flowers in the midst of the conversing mountains, will bring you to the Chikka campsite.

CHIKA – BALU KA GERA

As the trek continues, you will be enchanted by the snow capped peaks of the Dhauladhar range, adorned by the waterfalls, lakes and the river Rani and different species of Flora and fauna. As you ascent the terrain will become rockier and plenty of cold streams, will numb your feet.

BALU KA GERA – HAMPTA PASS –SHEA GORU CAMPSITE

This trail mounts towards the Hampta Pass, where you can catch a glimpse of the Deo Tibba peak and the panoramic view of the Lahul Valley. Trudging and trotting along on a compact ice is a sheer challenge, leaving you gasping for breath. The snow-capped virgin view of the Himalayas will etch in your mind forever. SHEAGORU – CHATRU

It is quite an easy descent, between the mountain ranges though slippery at parts. Finally you reach Chatru, a magnificent camping site, in an altitude of 11,500 ft, beside the Chandra River. Enjoy the scenery and relax.

CHATRU TO CHANDRATAL LAKE

To make a move towards Chandratal Lake, you have to take a bus to Kaza Road you can either trek or travel by car to Chandratal .The trek can be tiring because of high altitude and low oxygen level. For bikers the roads are narrowing steep and bumpy. The freezing wind can make the conditions tough. The emerald colored lake is a photographer’s delight. The reflection of the stars on the lake reminds you of ‘like a diamond in the sky” The camps at Chandratal are nice and warm, but the cold is ghastly.
