Outlook’s internal function is just same as any other database function. Outlook PST is composed of indexes to locate its file objects for better performance and speed. In MS Outlook, these objects are emails, notes, calendar, contacts, tasks, appointments, outbox, sent items and many others. The moment corruption occurs in any of these indexes, user lose the access to Outlook PST file and all emails, email items become corrupt too.
Usually indexes get corrupt due to unexpected power outage, corruption in media, software malfunctioning, or using an indexing application, etc. As a result of such corruption issues, there is complete inaccessibility of file and prevent MS Outlook from starting. Since the data becomes inaccessible too, it requires user to restore it from last known backup. But absence of latest and valid backup calls for PST Reader tool. A result oriented PST Reader software works wonders in restoring the inaccessible data from corrupt Outlook PST file.
Consider an instance where user is using MS Outlook ...
... 2007 and he is not able to open the Outlook. Further, when he views the Windows application log for the cause, he come across the following error message.
The store <file_path>/file_name.pst is being reconciled with the indexer for the following reason: The store was last opened on a different machine.”
Furthermore, this particular error and behavior occurs on each attempt of opening Outlook.
Reasons behind this error
As already mentioned above, this error occurs due to Outlook PST corruption, more typically when the file indexes are damaged.
Solution to this problem
The following measures would be helpful to you in resolving this issue.

You can use Outlook inbuilt utility called Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe) to repair the file. This repair tool is included itself with installation of MS Outlook and is launched by its associated program file-Scanpst.exe. Since it is a hidden file, you need to first go to folder options and enable the viewing of hidden and system files or otherwise, you won’t be able to locate the file.

There are situations when the tool might fail. In such cases, you can delete the corrupted file and create a new one. This step is recommended only if you have latest and valid backup copy with you, otherwise you would be left with nothing.

Lastly if none of the above methods is going to work, then use third party PST Reader software.

PST Reader is technologically advanced software that is very much user friendly and is capable of recovering highly encrypted email files. Corrupt, damaged, lost Outlook PST files are easily handled by PST Reader tool that extract data from a corrupted, unreadable, and inaccessible PST. Software restores complete formatting of emails after recovery.
