Avoid Buying A Natural Shampoo If It Has Any Of These Ingredients

Natural Shampoos have become a fad in recent years. Rightfully so, as they are a perfect combination of all the necessary natural and herbal ingredients, as advised in the age-old Ayurveda. The Best Herbal Shampoo could help your hair get all the necessary nourishment they need. But the best part is they don’t have any negative effects on hair, even if used for an extended period or for many times in a week. These two qualities have helped Natural Shampoos spearhead in the industry of haircare FMCG segment.
But as soon as the MNCs sensed the huge demand for such shampoos, they came up with their derivatives, which contain chemicals on the name of beneficial additives. But such additives, no matter how fancy and scientific they sound, only act to spoil the health of your skin and hair. So let us have a look at a few such additives, along with the negative effects they have on your hair, that you should look out for when buying a natural shampoo.
1. Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde is the simplest aldehyde, made up of an alkyl group, a carbon atom, an oxygen atom, and two hydrogen atoms. ...
... It is used in shampoos as a preservative. Its side-effects on human health include watery eyes, skin irritation, nausea, etc.
2. Fragrance
You might have seen the packings of many of the Best Organic Shampoos having the word “Fragrance” written on the back of them. Although natural and organic shampoos are different from each other, you should avoid either of them having fragrances as a part of their ingredients. That’s because no manufacturer ever explains what they have put to attain such nice smells which, in case of beauty products, could be any chemical them could make them smell good.
3. Mineral Oil
Mineral oil is formed as a by-product when crude oil is refined to give petroleum and other products. Other than using it in shampoos, mineral oil is also used when manufacturing other beauty products. The prime reason for using mineral oil is to avoid moisture loss. But the problem is, such oils do it so well that they end up clogging up your pores, making your scalp feel itchy and oily.
4. Retinyl Palmitate
Retinyl Palmitate(RP) is derived from the combination of Retinol and palmitic acid. When used on the skin, the natural enzymes of our skin covert it to Retinol, a vitamin that aids anti-aging of skin. Although RP is soft on the skin and hasn’t been found related to any skin issues, the fact that it converts to Retinol after coming in contact with skin is somewhat problematic. As studies have found that Retinol can cause skin irritation, allergies, reaction, and is also a photo carcinogenic agent. Which means it increases the chance of skin cancer from UV rays in its user.
5. Triclosan
Used for its antibacterial and antifungal properties, Triclosan is an organic compound that has been causing endocrine disruption, weakening of the immune system, and asthma in humans. Other than shampoos, the chemical compound is also used in toothpaste, soaps, detergents, and toys.
