How To Create A Great Guest Bedroom In Your Cabin Home

Have you ever had guests stay at your home and been embarrassed by the guest room that you had for them? Maybe the bed had an ugly bedspread, or the space was cluttered because it was also used for storage. In this article, I will give a few tips on how to create a great guest bedroom in your cabin home, so your guests are comfortable and grateful.

First of all, if you’re lucky enough to have guests stay in your home, please don’t use your guest bedroom as storage, unless it’s a couple boxes in the closet. No one wants to feel like they are imposing, and having boxes lying around might make them feel like that. Plus, you don’t want them tripping and hurting themselves. That might happen because they are in an unfamiliar place already, and boxes in weird places might trip them up. That being said, make sure there is a clear path to and around the bed, so they don’t hurt themselves or stub their toe on something that’s out of place.

... a little bit out of their comfort zone, so make your guest room like a hotel room. Bed made, floor clean, nothing cluttering up the tables and other furniture. Cabins are usually out of town, away from all the concrete, with dirt roads making up the final part of their journey. This makes it easier to accumulate dirt on your floors. So, make sure that the floor is swept really well, and mopped preferably, if there’s not carpet. Guests usually don’t travel with slippers, so a clean floor would make it nice for their feet. You could even go as far as offer them a pair of “house slippers” and let them know they are welcome to use them. And don’t forget the bathroom! Cleanliness includes the bathroom. The bathroom that your guests use should be equally as clean as their bedroom.

Another tip for a nice guest bedroom is adequate lighting. Make sure the regular light switch is working for the main light, and don’t forget a table lamp. Most people often read at bedtime to help them to get sleepy and relaxed, since they’re sleeping in a different place and might have trouble in that area. A table lamp is a nice touch even if they don’t like to read at bedtime because it lets them get into bed before they turn out the lights. This helps a lot since they likely don’t know their way around your room as well, and a table lamp would provide enough light to help prevent trips or falls on their way to the bed. One could even go as far as to plug in a night light for them, to further help prevent any trips or falls.

In the guest bedroom in my cabin, I like to make sure that the bedding is in good shape. That includes clean sheets, adequate pillows, and a nice, attractive bedspread. Mine is a western theme, but you could have anything on there, as long as it’s in good shape. Quilts are a popular choice in cabins and add a little nostalgia. I also drop a subtle hint to my guests about having fresh sheets on the bed, just to qualm any worries. I can’t imagine someone using the same sheets on their bed as when the last person stayed there, but there’s always that one person... Eww.

Another important thing to factor is the temperature. Everyone is comfortable at different temperatures, so you’ll want to ask what a comfortable temperature is for your guests. Since cabins tend to be a little drafty and hard to heat, it’s especially important to ask your guest what temperature they like to sleep in. Some people like a really cold room, and some people like it warmer. So, if they like it cooler, you could shut any heating vents that are in their room, and suggest that they could crack the window open if desired. You could also give them a fan, so if it’s warm outside, the fan will help keep them cool. If it’s an upstairs room, you could put a fan in the window to help push out the warm air. On the flip side, if they like a warmer room, leave out several warm blankets for them to choose from, and set their room thermometer at a comfortable level, or offer a space heater.

If you really want to go the extra mile for your guest, you can turn down their bed for them. This would usually include a mint on their pillow. You could also get them a small gift for visiting you in your cabin home.
