Are you going back to the doctor again for a cough consultation even if you are religiously taking your daily sustenance, or is your child having allergy attacks even though it is not yet wet season? Have you ever wondered why these health-related problems keep re-occurring every now and then for no obvious logical reason? This can possibly be caused by molds. Sad to say, molds are everywhere and have been parts of the ecosystem since time immemorial. What we can do is to know and understand, control, and prevent the mold issue to solve our health problem once and for all.

What is mold?
Molds are microscopic fungi that grow from microscopic spores that can be found in air and grow on surfaces in mold cluster form. Exposure to its microscopic spores can provoke allergic reactions especially for asthmatic people or persons who have weak respiratory systems. Even a healthy individual’s defense immunization system can be lowered, causing one to get sick.

Understanding the nature of molds
Mold formation starts with the presence of mold spores combined with moisture, either in water form ...
... or high humidity. They thrive best on surfaces having warmth, oxygen, and darkness. Household molds can thrive almost everywhere, like in the bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, living room, and other parts of the house.

Control and prevention of mold
By knowing the mold's location, you can control its presence beforehand, and learn to manage the mold infestation through prevention.

This article only covers mold presence in the major parts of the house, and will not mention the others in detail:

· Bathroom Areas: shower, bathtub, sink, and toilet

Basically, all parts of the bathroom that are wet, warm, and deficient of ventilation are perfect habitats for mold. Showers, bathtubs, toilets, and sinks are the most favorite areas of molds since water is used all the time in those areas. Even if not in use, dampness and less ventilation makes the problem even worse. Try making all surfaces dry and clean all the time, especially after use. You can keep the exhaust fan running for at least thirty minutes after using the bathroom area or use a dehumidifier to lessen the humidity.

·Kitchen Areas: Kitchen sink, pantry and kitchen appliances (fridge, microwave, oven, stove, garbage disposal)

Mold can create a circus in the kitchen. Unwashed dishes, food leftovers, overly-used sponges, damp kitchen pans beneath the kitchen sink, expired and forgotten foodstuffs on the fridge, food spillages with grease on microwaves and stoves, and the garbage disposals with everything on it can cater mold. Kitchen mold prevention can be done by religiously keeping the kitchen clean, tidy, organized, dry from moist and drips, and well-ventilated.

·Bedroom Areas and Living Rooms: Air conditioners, heating systems, and windows.
Unlikely as they may seem, indoor areas are totally vulnerable also and humidity is a major factor especially for windows and air conditioners where temperatures are unpredictable and uncontrollable.

Checking for molds all over the house is a pain in the neck, but most people don’t realize how important it is to keep a house mold-free. You can be free from sickness and can prevent future household damages.
