The film one woman one vote highlights the plight of women for equality and recognition in the society. The first wave feminist movement occurred between the 19th and 20th century. Women began to form strong bonds that enabled them to establish activist groups that resulted to the first-wave feminism. Activists brought to light the issue of women suffrage; the fight for women to vote. Prior to the first-wave movement, women hardly had any control over their lives. The society limited the women’s access to education. Similarly, women hardly any authority beyond d their domestic sphere. Activities such as voting were a male-dominated affair. The rise of the suffrage movement arose when women realized that can participate in broad societal affairs.
The film highlights the organization of the first women’s rights conventions organized by Elizabeth Stanton, in 1848. Stanton joined forces with formidable activists such as Susan Anthony and aired their desire to allow women to vote. The road to the acquisition of the right to vote was with numerous challenges as the government and legislators ignored the women’s plea. ...

The feminist activists did not give up but continued their fight for women’s rights. Female activist such as Alice Paul resulted in confrontational tactics and civil disobedience; actions that led to mistreatment and arrests. The feminist's struggle was not without its reward. In 1919, Congress passed the 19th amendment to the Constitution that gave women the right to vote. The passing of the amendment gave women additional power to participate in societal decisions e.g. election of leaders.
