We browsed the same list of smartphones to see how many people sold them on the auction site. For each model in our list, we used the five of the lowest Buy Now lists to find the conservative price available for your old phone.

In each case, the average price of Online is higher than the price offered by the mobile recycling website. The recycling site will buy the iPhone 6 for about £130, but they will sell it on Online for nearly £160.

You can try to sell the Samsung Galaxy S7 for £150 to 02, or use Online, which has an average “buy now” price of £320. As for Huawei Companion 9? Onlines average listing price is £253 higher than the price offered by the recycling service.

Online users are used to seeing smartphones sell more cash, so even if it's a bit of a hassle, we recommend that you try your luck on the auction site before selling it to a recycling site - especially if your phone shows a higher depreciation rate.
