The most important is the iPad Pro, with all its ringtones and whistles including FaceID integration and gorgeous liquid retina screens. Then you have a standard iPad at the bottom; the classic tablet experience doesn't support Apple's pencils and smart keyboards.

Now, somewhere between the two who are back from the dead and sitting between them is the iPad Air and the iPad Mini. They basically have the same internal structure, they only differ in screen size and support the above keyboard (Air is equipped with a smart keyboard, Mini does not have).

The last Air was released in 2013 and was launched before the Pro.
So who is the iPad Air, and now back to 2019 ? Is this an iPad worth buying ?

Design : Rethinking the Times

So far, you have no doubt that you have an iPad, have an iPad, or at least see a tourist awkwardly holding an aloft to shoot a historical monument. The new iPad Air looks just like any other non-Pro iPad before. It is 10.5 inches high and sits between the 9.7-inch standard iPad and the 11-inch cheap iPad Pro.

Physically, the iPad Air is far less than the full-screen iPad ...
... Pro and its FaceID module. The front camera and TouchID home button each have a large bezel top and bottom. The air side frame is thinner than the standard iPad and provides a larger screen to body ratio.

Despite this, Air still maintains its tradition in terms of thickness, with a depth of 1.4 mm compared to the standard iPad. It's worth mentioning that Pro is even thinner, but it also has annoying camera bumps, while Air doesn't.

All iPad models now weigh roughly the same, and any difference is small and almost irrelevant. However, Air's Wi-Fi version is 456g and the cellular model is 464g. Even the most portable laptops, this is not halfway.

The main complaint of the basic iPad when we reviewed it two years ago was the screen. It's also good, it just lacks the anti-reflective treatment of other iPads, which means it becomes a mirror of direct light. It also does not bond to the actual glass, which means that a broken line will occur when using the Apple Pencil.

The iPad Air's screen solves these problems with an anti-reflective screen and a beautiful display, which makes it great when you use a pencil to draw. It also supports True Tone and Wide Color, so photos and videos look great and automatically adapt to the environment. The only important thing it didn't have was the ProMotion high refresh rate from the iPad Pro, which made the device feel so smooth.

Performance : Magical Ford

The new iPad Air has the same A12 Bionic chipset as Apple's latest phones, including XS and XR. This means that it scores very similarly in GeekBench at 11543; the iPad Pro and its A12X chipset are not perfect, but still very fast for applications and multitasking.

In the real world, this means you can play any game on the iPad Air and run any app from the App Store, and it may be done at least for the next few years. Fortnite is beautifully played, iMovie exports my 1080p movies for about half the duration, and the fast switching between apps is always smooth.

The annoying thing is that the iPad Air's only storage options are 64GB and 256GB, and the 128GB sweet spot is missing from the lineup. And this is Apple, the price between the two is quite good, the 64GB WiFi model is priced at 479 pounds, the 256GB is priced at 150 pounds, priced at 629 pounds. And, as always, there is no scalable storage space.

Features : Lightning Strike

The new iPad Air supports two of Apple's premium accessories: the smart keyboard and pencil (1st generation). The compatible smart keyboard is dazzling and worth £159. This is an astronomical number. Considering that STILL is not equipped with backlights, it is useless in low light conditions. Although you can see it, Apple's keyboard is one of the best tablet keyboards, helped by the size of the iPad Air, making the key spacing more comfortable. Personally, I wouldn't use it as a replacement for laptops because it's not as comfortable as typing the appropriate laptop keyboard. Fortunately, the more comfortable Bluetooth keyboard can be much less than Apple's smart keyboard, so this is still an option.

The iPad Air is also suitable for pencils, although it is only the first generation. This means it's cheaper (£90 to £120), but it also means it won't wirelessly charge an iPad tablet like the second generation. Instead, it clumsily and somewhat fragilely sticks out of the iPad's lightning port for pairing and charging. When placed on a table, it also has an annoying tendency to roll uncontrollably.

However, Apple's pencil is still the best tablet.

The battery life of the iPad series has always been impressive, and the iPad Air is no exception. We were able to use the iPad for a full nine-hour workday and still have a 20% fee to read Stuff on the train.

The last upgrade worthy of attention on Air is Bluetooth 5.0, which has improved by more than 4.2 on the standard iPad. If you use a wireless headset, this means a better range, although you should be aware that the Air also has a headphone jack.

Photography : Forward Facing Forward

The rear camera is an area that is no different between the iPad Air and the cheaper iPad - they all have an 8 megapixel sensor. This means that the iPad Air can provide photos for your tablet that may differ from the quality you get from your phone in your pocket. But if you find yourself in a situation where you need to take a photo with a 10.5-inch tablet, you'll find it's a repairable squid.

The main lens on the back is flush with the device, which means there is no swing when you place it on a flat surface. This is a trivial matter, but many Apple phones and tablets have a camera highlight that oscillates when placed flat, which is just a little bit of annoyance over time.

The front camera is a place where improvements can be found, and the 7 megapixel camera has a big leap than the iPad's 1.2MP model. This means that you look better than ever before in a Facetime video call.

APPLE IPAD AIR 2019 VERDICT

Although the iPad lineup is plentiful, it is clear that the iPad Air should be firmly in the middle of the series. Comparing the basic WiFI model, the iPad Air 64GB is priced at £479, which is 290 pounds cheaper than the iPad Pro 64GB, but only £160 higher than the standard iPad 32GB.

Given the feature set of the Air, this price makes it the most attractive iPad for most people. Pro is very expensive, and the extra features are only really relevant to a few people. However, the extra £160 on the standard iPad allows you to get a better and larger screen, significantly increase power consumption, extending life, providing smart keyboard compatibility and an extra 32GB of storage.

If you can afford it, then there is no problem at all.
