If you're used to a high-powered laptop, you can rely on it to do the toughest tasks, such as video and photo editing. It's hard to imagine what a Chromebook is all about, especially low-end laptops that will only get you back. $250 (about £190, $350), in addition to playing mobile games, Internet browsing and streaming movies on Netflix, may also be useful.

After spending some time with Dell's small but fierce Inspiron Chromebook 11 combo, however, with some small productivity tasks and spending time playing games, we're sure to start seeing the appeal of these laptop alternatives. Considering that this particular Chromebook is not the most powerful product on the market, this is the saying.

Price and Availability

Since the Dell Inspiron Chromebook 11 2 is stripped, it doesn't have a lot of customization options - there are actually only two. One is equipped with 32GB eMMC storage and the other with 64GB, which is $280 and $300 on the Dell website. At the time of this writing, they all are discounted at the same price: $250.

Although the notebook is 34GB in the UK and sells for £319, it is unfortunate ...
... that in Australia, Dell only offers the 3185, with the Windows 10 2-n-1 and AMD A9-9420e processors. The 3185 comes in two configurations: a cheaper ($600) with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive, and a more expensive model ($700) with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of eMMC storage.

Design

One of the main reasons to buy a Dell Inspiron Chromebook 11 2 in 1 is its compact body. 11.96 x 8.18 x 0.82 inches, this Chromebook is very small and it's hard to find a place that is spacious enough to store it. However, in terms of its size, it weighs 3.17 pounds and is not as slim as we want it to be.

Say it's an attractive device that might be a bit stretched, shiny, and singularly reflective, making it look more like a toy than an adult's functional tool. However, it is also not attractive. We like its textured keyboard deck, rubber stripes and all-black look as well as rounded edges.

The membrane keyboard is actually pretty good, with a deep enough stroke, enough spacing between the keys, and the keys are not too hard. Just like the touchpad of a laptop, it has enough responsiveness to scroll and tap, but if you're a trackpad, you might find it too stiff. Considering the size of the Chromebook, the speakers are actually loud, but the sound is small, there is almost no bass, and the sound field is very small.

Troubled by large borders, the Dell Inspiron Chromebook 11 2 in 1 only offers 1,366 x 768 displays, wasting some quality real estate. However, this monitor is a touch screen and has a night lighting option that you can adjust from cool to warm and scheduled at a specific time.

The 360 degree hinge is tight enough to accommodate different modes or settings, but not so tight that you have to apply undue pressure to flip. This design allows for four different usage modes: classic laptop design, tablet mode, tent mode and stand settings. Please note that the keyboard will automatically detach in the last three modes.
For laptops of their size, there are a fair number of available ports. Unfortunately, without USB-C, this is disappointing because it seems to be the direction that most new devices are heading towards these days.

Perhaps the best thing about this Chromebook design is that it should be rugged. In other words, it has splash and impact resistance, which is very suitable for children, travelers and users, we just say, more carefree.

Our Judgment

The Dell Inspiron Chromebook 11 (3181) is a compact Chromebook with a rugged design, multi-tasking capabilities and an exceptionally long battery life. The best part is that it may cost less than what you pay for a monthly utility.
