Things That Pregnant Travelers Must Know
When you are about the welcome the most precious being of your life into this world, you would not want to do anything silly to harm the baby in your stomach. However, there is no point being overly anxious about the safety of the unborn, especially when it comes to traveling. Although you can travel throughout your pregnancy if there are no identified complications, it is still better to go out of the city or country during the second trimester. Before you pack your bags, you must be aware of a few things about traveling to make your journey more comfortable and safer.
A road trip
During the road trip, never ever forget the seat belt. It provides you the best protection for you and your baby. Even the small road bumps feel like huge speed breakers whether you are driving or not. Therefore, it is important that you should be able to bear the jerk even if it is a small one. Needless to say that the seatbelt will save you in the unfortunate even of a huge mishap as well.
Some cars come with the option of switching on the airbags or turning them off, which some people ...
... use depending on their preference. When you are pregnant, you must switch on the airbags to avoid any unfortunate harm to you and the baby.
If you are traveling by a bus that has a lavatory, try to use it only when the bus has halted because the alleys of the vehicle are quite narrow. The bus moves through the bumpy road, which may imbalance you if you are walking through the aisle at that moment. Therefore, it is better to hold on to the Nature’s Call when the bus is moving.
The walking passage of a train is still wider than the buses, even though the toilets are small. While navigating through the aisle, hold on to the railings or backs of the seats to maintain your balance.
Try not to stay in any mode of transportation for too long, no more than 4-6 hours, whether you travel by train, bus, Self Drive car, or airplane.
If possible, take frequent breaks to move around and stretch your body to keep the blood circulating.
During a flight
Most airlines allow you to travel until your eight month. However, if your doctor allows you to travel during the last month, you may do so. However, you must not fly during the ninth month unless it is urgent.
The aisle of the airplane is too narrow to walk comfortably. You must hold on to the seats while walking so that you can balance your body in case there is sudden turbulence.
Choose an aisle seat, which will allow you to get up frequently for washroom breaks without disturbing others. You may also want to just walk around through the aisle when you are tired of sitting.
Travel is something that some of us just cannot resist throughout the long period of pregnancy, though you must avoid going around after 32 weeks. It is crucial to maintain composure even when you feel unwell while traveling. You must ask for assistance from anyone who can help you, perhaps your spouse, flight attendant, another female passengers on the vehicle, or even the driver who may stop the car if you cannot tolerate. When you are driving yourself, make sure to take frequent breaks to breathe in fresh air. If you take proper precautions, you can surely enjoy your vacation just like your companions. Don’t bother too much, just go for a holiday.
