This great value-priced laptop has excellent usability and Microsoft Office365 for less than £200

Launched in 2015, HP Stream 11 is known for its low price, excellent usability, and a one-year subscription to Microsoft Office365. It is still available almost two years later, it is cheaper now, and the price has dropped from £180 to £150.

At the time, we compared it to the Asus EeeBook X205TA, which is our preferred laptop because it is cheaper and lighter, but you can't buy that machine anymore because HP Stream 11 is still A very valuable way of laying. Your palm is on a complete Windows 10 machine and it's still a good choice.

Design and Build

The quality of the construction is very good for the price, the chassis won't give way to our products and try to bend it. It is much heavier than the Asus EeeBook X205TA: HP's 1.3kg is significantly higher than the 980g ASUS.

The keyboard is also very good. It fills most of the keyboard trays with very small borders on the left and right sides, which means it's spacious enough for people with pretty hands. The white island key has a reasonable amount of travel and feels comfortable enough to type for a long time. Although we have problems with physical buttons, taps and swipes on the touchpad are responsive. If you perform a physical click in the middle of the bottom of the touchpad, you won't be left-clicking or right-clicking in Windows; you don't get anything. This is a problem for users who are used to clicking on the bottom of the touchpad, and this is not what we often see, which is frustrating.

In addition to the second regular USB port, Stream 11 also improves the performance of the ASUS EeeBook X205TA in connection with the USB3 port. This is great for transferring large files from a USB storage device or even working directly on a high-speed USB hard drive, but if you do this it will waste your free Office365 for a year. There is also a full-size HDMI port for connecting to a TV or an external display.

Screen

The 1,366x768 pixel screen can be used under the most reasonable conditions, although working outdoors will be difficult because the backlight is not very bright. The color coverage is only 62.1% of the sRGB color gamut, which is undoubtedly better than Asus, with a contrast ratio of 325:1. The horizontal viewing angle is quite wide, and with some hinge adjustments, the viewing experience is perfectly suited for this inexpensive laptop.
