Holidays In Thailand - Koh Samui Phuket
Think you're ready for some spicy Southern Thai flavor? Head over to Koh Samui for a stopover on a coconut laden paradise island where the nightlife is just as hot as the beaches, which are some of the finest in the world.
With 90% of its resorts directly on the beach, the typical shallow water found at beaches like Bang Rak and Bo Phut make these the perfect destinations for families and children. Koh Samui isn't lacking educational cultural value either, with temples and shrines everywhere on the island, which has a predominantly Buddhist history. These temples or 'wats' are support centers for the community, and as such are very well maintained.
In addition to relics like the famous 12 foot high golden Buddha at Wat Phra Tai, temples are well known for their festivals, held several times a year. You won't be able to miss the congestion of cars and bikes lining the road down the street outside one of such festivals, which are complete with food, entertainment, and religious rituals.
At nighttime, Koh Samui comes alive with outdoor parties in Chaweng, and regular ferries to the mainland beach parties, ...
... although the discerning traveler should note that these are not free of charge.
Chaweng lake has the greatest concentration of bars and nightclubs, and for those looking for a quieter time, Lamai is a great destination and a favorite spot for repeat visitors.
What Koh Samui lacks in public transportation is made up for by the thousands of bicycle "taxis" ready to take you anywhere you want to go. From the international airport, it's a short hop to Asia's most popular beach location, Phuket, the Pearl of the Andaman.
Phuket is Thailand's largest island, and is famous for its white sandy beaches with accommodations as fancy as world-class resorts, and as low-key as tropical bungalows. Diverse historical factors have left the island dotted with almost as many mosques as wats, and after a day of educational sightseeing and tropical beach bumming, what could be more perfect than a visit to one of Phuket's many well known spas for some additional rest and relaxation?
The nightlife in Phuket is equally exciting, with entertainment ranging from beer bars through to uber trendy clubs and lounge bars. Patong is a popular destination for partygoers, with plenty of bars and clubs to suit all tastes, having undergone a change from a red light district to a more family-friendly area in recent years.
