Window installation needs attention and care. A slight mistake can cause damage to the windows and its parts or hinder the process. A small damage while fixing a 2D hinge or frames can lead to damages that might turn out to be expensive or time consuming. This becomes even more important when you are on the clock as little problems can cause delays.
Here a few things that you need to take care of during window installation-
Window installation highly relies on workmanship. Hence, you should always ensure that you trust experienced people with the task. Sometimes window manufacturers also do the installation but if it is not an option then you better approach a reliable agent.
There are three types of frames available in the market.
• Cast-in window system
• Sub-frame system
• Lug system

The cast-in window system will require coordination between fabricator and precaster. The windows should be handled with precaution as any damage might cost you money on replacement.
During the installation of sub frame, make sure that ...
... the alignment is proper. Use protective tapes to ensure safety of the frames. Also the sub frame must clean of any debris and dust as it can create problem during installation.
During the installation of lug frames, check if the wall openings are without any defects. Cleaning the wall openings ensures that all the dust and debris is removed. Always check if the frames are without deafened.
Closing the gaps
The gaps that form during installation must be sealed to prevent water seepage. Sealant or waterproof grouting must be used to close the gaps. Again, you need to ensure that you use sealant when the size of the gap is 7-10mm. Clean the aluminium window frame with a clean rag dipped in spirit. Use a masking tape to prevent staining of sealant. A backer rod will help you make sure that the sealant is compact.
Gaps between 11-25mm should be sealed by grouting. Check that the protective tape on the frame is intact. The wall that is to be grouted must be cleaned of any dust particles. Using non shrink grout will prevent water seepage and cracks from occuring around the window. Using timber strip will enhance the grout compactness.
The next important step is to work on the waterproofing of the window frames and joints. Many times window are damaged during installation due to water seeping in. This should be taken care especially in the rainy season. Apply a waterproofing membrane on the joints between the wall and the window frame.
Ensure that protective hardware such as anti capillary guide, stoppers etc. are installed with care. The hardware and accessories must be bought from a trusted agent, who can provide trusted items. Locking devices and handles must also be of good quality. A double tung handle and multi point locking system is advisable. In addition, you need to ensure that the glass panel and window frame are not damaged.
