Athirapally Waterfalls,which is a beautiful and scenic waterfall is located 1000 feet above sea level at the Chalakudy River in Thrissur district of Kerala.The famous tourist attractions in Kerala, the magnificent waterfalls are a sight worth witnessing for everyone. This is the biggest waterfall in Kerala originates from the upper reaches of westernghats. Athirapally falls comes down from a height of 80 feet through several parallel streams and it is very gorgeous to see. In the monsoon season, in its full might, the waterfalls appear like Niagara Falls which is most attractive.It falls down by the steps of rocks which is very amazing for our eyes.
Most of them can reach the top of Athirapally falls in about 15 minutes’ wall as it is very adventureous. It is blessed with excellent views of the Sholayar hills and the Western Ghats probably in longsight. The trek down from the top of the waterfalls is about 10-15 minutes which feels us exciting. Swimming is possible in the stream as you enjoy the spray of the water as it is more adventureous.Rainbows ...
... are also a common sight for us. It usually takes 2-3 hours to explore the waterfalls which makes us more attractive.Daily jungle safari trips are organized by Thrissur District Tourism Promotion Council with Athirappilly Destination Management Council from Chalakudy to Malakkappara by bus.
Above all,the surrounding environs of the waterfalls is a bio diversity hotspot that helps to improve greenery. The river is blessed with 85 species of fresh water fishes that help them to survive forever . The forest is a great habitat of different species like the Indian grey hornbill, Malabar pied and lion-tailed macaque, Asiatic elephant, tiger, leopard, sambar, etc which attracts touristers abundantly.The popular picnic spots Vazhachal Waterfalls, Anakkayam, Sholayar Dam, Valparai and Malayattur Wildlife Sanctuary near Athirappilly are worth exploring mostly for foreigners. There are adventure activities like river rafting, trekking, etc that attracts everyone especially children . The most famous Athirapally waterfalls can be visited anytime during the year undoubtfully. As it is very glourious during monsoons, heavy rains cause inconvenience to visit here. So, the best time to visit is from September to January without any barriers.This waterfall is considered as the beauty of nature.
