We love everything Peugeot! Perth City Peugeot likes to share all the latest news, and we have some exciting developments ahead of the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. Peugeot has teased its new 508 Sport Engineered Concept, and it’s certainly made an impression. Let’s take a closer look at what we’ve learned so far and make some educated guesses on what this concept car will be capable of.

What is the Peugeot 508 Sport Concept

Essentially, this is a PHEV that Peugeot claims can go from 0-100/km/h in only 4.3 seconds! If that isn’t enough, it’s claimed that this concept car can travel up to 50km on the electric power alone. The 508 hybrid is rumoured to have a full reveal at the Geneva Motor Show early next month, and it’s an extremely interesting concept. Peugeot has been all over the car industry press talking about rolling out more electrified vehicle in the near future. A concept car doesn’t often go into full production, but it’s a great barometer of what a car manufacturer is up to, and it may have features that we will see on future cars.

What Do We Know About This Car?

This concept ...
... has been given the moniker Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered. The engineering team has paired a Pure Tech 200 turbocharged petrol engine that drives the front axle, with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle. The petrol power plant generates 150 kW of power, and the electric motor generates 82 kW of power. In practice, this gives the 508 Sport similar performance to an all wheel drive sedan car. Peugeot has claimed that the top speed is 250 km/h, which is extremely impressive.

The Electrified Element

Obviously, a big part of any EV or PHEV is the electrified part of the car. In the past, Australia has not been receptive to electrified vehicle due to their limited speed or range problems. This now seems to be a thing of the past thanks to advances in battery storage and many engineering problems seem to have been resolved. The electric power for the Peugeot 508 Sport is drawn from an 11.8kWh battery pack. This allows for a zero emissions driving experience with a range of up to 50km according to a WLTP testing cycle.

The 508 Concept Design

The 508 Sport Engineered concept has a number of interesting design features, such as quarter panel winglets, carbon fibre side mirrors, new bumpers with a 3D printed element, an anodised finish, and a rear diffuser. Inside, you will find Alcantara trim levels, comfort seats, Onyx Black stitching and bright green highlights on the dashboard and door handles.

Peugeot has stated that this is an important year for their future and electrified vehicles is a large part of their vision. By the end of 2023, the French car maker wants an electrified version of every car in their entire range.
