First of all I consider the Wan Yue video utterly disturbing. It merely shows the staggering decrease of compassion among us. I believe that the topic on practical altruism is indeed touching. There are very many things we can do to assist those in need. I find effective selflessness an attractive topic because it helps define the limits to giving. From the little you receive how much do you give? Helping the needy gives people a sense of satisfaction that propels them to do more. Just by seeing other people give gives me a sense of moral need. Comparing their readiness to help to how much I give to the needy shows that I need to give more.

Peter Singer spreads the power of actual altruism not just by giving out money to charities but by opening our eyes to effective altruism in his books and talks. It is inspiring that Peter Singer motivates many people to active altruism through words. I speculate that increasing awareness on efficient altruism is by far a better approach to helping those in need. Just by reading Peter Singers books and watching his talks many have been inspired to give to their neighbors. Avery good ...
