Michael Faraday first used gases similar to Ammonia in air conditioning. Nevertheless, these chemicals were toxic, harmful and extremely lethal. It was phased out as it affected the ozone layer.

Industries use Ammonia chiller to keep their raw material and finished product secured. It is required in industries who manufacture chemicals, food, beverages and many more. It is a better choice than R22 refrigerant.

Ammonia chillers are suitable for industries, which require an average temperature of 25 degree Fahrenheit. Ammonia is light refrigerant with high energy value, useful for better cooling. However, in comparison to Air chiller, Ammonia chiller is cost demanding. In the long run it turns out to be profitable. The profit can be somewhere around 30%.

Technological development has made the procedure economical and efficient. Presently the design is compact and likewise efficient to provide the desired cooling temperature. With a cooling tower pumping system, the performance is improved. This technology offers the same cooling performance even when the industry runs at its total capacity. With contemporary ...
... design and development, the risk of Ammonia leakage has been removed and the mechanism keeps running for a longer period.

Refrigeration means keeping the environment cool, a specific space. It is a widely established technology, which is seen in every household and other industrial enterprise. Because of low power consumption many industry have started using the technology. There is no alternative technology to replace it at present.

The advantage of Ammonia in today's technology is that it requires small dimension piping and throttle cross-sections. Since copper is not the suitable metal for Ammonia other method are used and few companies have specialized on it. Moreover, Ammonia is not a unstable gas but has a pungent smell, which is not harmful to human. It can give a temporary irritation and bad smell in the neighborhood in the event of leakage.

Today the air conditioner could give poor performance if the coil for evaporation is not correctly maintained. The refrigerant circulates in the coil therefore it is pertinent one should clean it often.
