How To Avoid Frequent Fainting

There are times when you can feel extremely weak. You do not feel like going to work, or even walking. You feel faint. You start wondering if you have got a fever. You may even feel dizziness or like vomiting. These all are the signs of faintness.
This generally happens when the blood and oxygen supply to the brain reduces to below average and this hampers its normal functioning. Consequently, the brain tries to gain blood and oxygen from other body organs, leaving these in lurch. A person involuntarily starts to attempt to consume as much oxygen as he can, which is the natural defense system of the body. Have you ever experienced such a situation or seen someone else doing so? Have you wondered what might be the possible reason and how to avoid them?
Fainting Facts:
Changing posture - aka postural hypotension is one of the many and common reasons. This generally the situation when a person is sitting for some time and suddenly feels dizziness when he attempts to stand up. The reason is that large part of our blood flows to the lower body during a sitting posture and, when you decide to stand up, the heart ...
... fails to get sufficient blood to the brain. This change in posture results as fainting.
Dehydration is also a prime reason of fainting, especially in children during summer when they play extensively outside without consuming enough water. This also results as less blood supply to the brain and muscles and causes fainting.
Anemia is a situation where the number of red blood cells or the level of haemoglobin reduces in the blood. This results as less oxygen to the brain and causes a fainting effect.
Heart abnormalities - in some cases, a change in heart rhythm causes fluctuations in the blood supply to other parts of the body. Poor condition of the heart valve also causes arrhythmia and affects its blood pumping capacity. This drops the level of oxygen in brain and causes faintness.
Sometimes strokes and other cardiac problems can also cause a similar situation.
Sometimes a person starts fainting on hearing some bad news or seeing some abnormally appalling, accident or condition. Such situations can cause the person faint. This situation is known as Vasovagal Syncope or Neuro cardiogenic Syncope.
Fainting is common during the pregnancy period. There can be multiple reasons responsible for fainting during pregnancy. Lack of a nutritious diet, anemia, lying on the back for long time, and other reasons can contribute to this.
At times, a sudden reduction in the level of glucose in the brain results into fainting. A similar situation emerges among diabetics when they take heavy dose of insulin, may be in an attempt to make up for the missed one earlier. This double shot of insulin suddenly reduces blood sugar to a dangerous level and causes insulin shock.
