Tips On How To Maintain Your Septic Tank

Septic system is the individual onsite system for treating household wastewater. Septic tank is a part of the septic system and is installed underground. It is the combination of natural decomposing process and the technology to treat wastewater. The system is used continuously receives wastewater from the household and its breakdown even for a single day may cost enormous to the owner. Therefore, septic tank maintenance becomes essential for flawless and uninterrupted functioning of the whole system. Discussed below are some of the tips that help in maintaining the septic tank.
Regular pumping
Regular pumping is the first and most important step of septic tank maintenance. Depending upon the size of the tank and the volume of the waste produced, each tank has a filling cycle after which it should be pumped out. Irregular pumping may cause blockage in the pipes, water clogging, and underground leakage.
High-pressure water jetting
Like the tank, drainpipes also collect waste deposits over the period and may block ...
... even before the tank is full for pumping. Therefore, high-pressure water jetting should be used at regular interval to prevent any type of blockage in the pipes.
Bacteria additives
Septic tank has live organic bacteria to break down the solid waste such as oil, soap, detergent, and other waste into a simpler form. Sometimes, the extra quantity of solids in water kills the natural bacteria and hence adding bacteria additives help in keeping pipes clean, clear and odor free.
Use of filters
Use of filters in the system increases a layer that can help in preventing solid, that has entered the pipe, from entering the tank. These filters are comparatively easy to filter and can be filtered even before the cleaning cycle of the tank. Filters are also cost less if required replacement.
Properly disposing of the waste
In addition to regular maintenance, disposing of the waste properly also helps in long last working of the system. If there is a large amount of waste pass through sinks and toilets, there will be frequent clogging and blockage.
• Food remains should be removed from the plates and dishes should be removed before washing them into sinks and dishwashers.
• Things like dental floss, wipes, paper towels, sanitary pads, and diapers should not be flushed in the toilets.
• High-efficiency machines and the appliances must be used as much as possible. These appliances save water and pass less water in the tank as compared to traditional appliances.
• Hot or boiling water should not be immediately passed into the drainage system. Hot water from bathing tub and sinks must be cooled down before passing through the pipes.
Signs that should not be ignored
When a septic tank has any problem, it gives a certain sign that is actually the signals for septic tank maintenance:
• The foul odor of sewage from sinks and the pipes, sinks and toilet seats.
• Minor damage occurred during plumbing.
