The Truth About Pressure Washing Your Deck
by anastasiiam | Feb 28, 2019 | Privacy

Our outdoor decks are an extension of our home and often times they go unnoticed or aren’t taken care of the way they should be. Decks need to be maintained just like other areas of your home. Decks are exposed to many different types of weather conditions depending on what area of the world you’re in including rain, wind, snow, dust etc. These types of conditions can cause a lot of harm to your deck such as staining, warping or even ruining the foundation of the deck with mold, staining or fading from the sun.

Pressure washing is a procedure that is done to help clean and restore your outdoor deck. Low pressure cleaning of your deck includes a Double-Chemical System that consists of a combination of two chemicals, allowing us to use a much safer and more effective cleaning solution. Advanced chemicals kill and remove algae as well as keep protecting the wood long after that. Once the cleaning is completed you need to allow the surface to dry for 48 hours or a moisture content less than 18%.

It is best practice to get your deck pressure washed annually. With that being said, there are certain times of the year that it is best to pressure wash your deck. It is not a good idea to pressure wash your deck if there is a chance of the temperature dropping below freezing. The deck needs time to dry after pressure washing and if the temperature drops too low then the deck will freeze over. A good rule of thumb is to have your pressure washing done when the temperature is above 52 degrees both during the day and at night and there is no rain or other condensation that could effect the wood.

It’s important to clean off your deck as best you can before washing it. Remove all items from the deck to make enough space to clean the area. Make sure that there are not any windows or doors open nearby where water could be sprayed into. Ensure all safety standards and quality standards are preformed before stepping onto the deck or putting any furniture or other items back.

Pressure washing not only cleans your deck from any debris or dirt but also helps your deck maintain its’ original integrity and allows it to shine like new. Along with pressure washing you may consider having areas of your deck inspected to see if any repairs are necessary. Loose boards and nails can occur from normal wear and tear and other weather conditions that you don’t expect. These can be easily fixed with repairs and replacement boards.
