Blended Learning In Design Education
Blended learning is gaining significance particularly in the landscape of design education. It refers to a hybrid that combines online digital media with traditional classroom methods. It draws on both technology and the physical presence of teachers and students. In this approach to learning, the student has an element of control over the place, pace, and path of learning.
Following are different types of models of blended learning used by b design colleges in India:
1.Face-to-face driver – The teacher drives instruction which is augmented using digital tools
2.Rotation – Students cycle through a schedule of independent study online which is later combined with face-to-face classroom time
3.Flex – A majority of the curriculum is delivered via a digital platform and teachers are available for real-time consultation and support.
4.Labs – The entire curriculum is provided via a digital platform but in a consistent physical location. Students usually take traditional classes in this model as well.
5.Self-blend – Students choose to augment their traditional learning with online ...
... course work.
6.Online driver – Students complete an entire course through an online platform with possible teacher check-ins.
In this article we will take a look at a few points of consideration of the blended learning approach while teaching design:
1.Creative Use of Technology
By virtue of this learning pedagogy, blended learning is a mix of face-to-face interaction and digital tools, which are instrumental in augmenting learning. The use of innovations like gamifications or AR are most impactful in learning a visual discipline like design. It is important to note that the presence of technology alone will not amplify learning. It is the sophisticated use of technological tools that makes a difference. While technology makes for a vital part of blended learning, it is the right human thought process that completes the benefits technology brings to learning.
2.Adapt through testing and feedback
Blended learning utilises an agile method of functioning. It involves constant feedback from learners at every step of the process. Adaptation and feedback are important aspects of learning design, as many iterations are created before a designer can produce the final product. All modifications in a product are made using feedback from potential users and other stakeholders. Blended learning allows budding designers to get accustomed to building in feedback and adaptation from a learning level itself so that they can seamlessly continue this practice when they join the industry.
3.Take a student-centred approach
Blended learning places immense emphasis on the needs of the learner, making them the centre of this alternative educational model. Careful content development and structure through blended learning allows students to navigate and engage with the learning process. This enriches learning in an immersive discipline like design.
If you are searching for a design college to pursue your degree from make sure to pick one where blended learning is practiced. Avantika University is one such institute, which is the top design college in India. Find out more about them at http://www.avantikauniversity.edu.in.
