Prevent Sunburn With Womens Rashies

We have all been there when we think we have protected ourselves from the sun, only to find that in fact we have come home with a nasty sunburn. It is extremely frustrating when you think that you have taken all the correct measures only for this to happen. Well, what a lot of people don’t realise is that what they think is adequate sun protection, actually is not.
There is a huge misconception out there that sunscreen is all you need for sun protection. In actual fact, sunscreen is only a filter and will only filter out a certain amount of the sun’s harmful rays. What a lot of people don’t realise is that they are applying it incorrectly also. It is extremely common to hear people talk about how the sunscreen did not protect them adequately when in fact it is all about the usage and about sunscreen being only one of the tools that are needed for adequate sun protection.
The Cancer Council has got a catchy and great message about how to protect yourself from the sun and prevent sun damage including sun burn which is:
Slip on sun protective clothing
Slip on sunscreen
Slap on a hat
Seek ...
... out some shade
Slide on a pair of sunglasses
Sun protective clothing includes clothing like womens rashies which are purpose made garments for sun protection. They are tested for their UPF rating and a top which is UPF 50+ can filter out up to 98% of the UVA and UVB rays. A womens long sleeve rashie can provide good sun protection of the torso area including the arms. There are some really great designs of womens rashies australia out there which look good wearing at the beach.
Sunscreen is the most widely used form of sun protection, but it is also the most commonly misused one as well. Most people think that if they out on a bit of sunscreen then they will be adequately protected. What you want to do is to read the manufacturer’s instructions and apply generously 20 minutes before going outdoors plus reapply regularly and also after swimming. Make sure that it is not expired and that it is a high SPF which covers both UVA and UVB rays.
Wearing a hat with a wide brim can help protect your head, neck, ears and face. The simple cap does not provide enough coverage so go for something that will give you enough protection. Slide on a pair of UV protected sunglasses as yes, even eyes can get sun damage too! Then the last one but definitely not least is to seek shade. This is important for the middle of the day when the sun is at its strongest. It is usually between the times of 10am and 4pm when the UVB rays are at their most damaging.
Even if you are out and about during the day, pick a shady area to sit. The shade will offer a small respite from the sun, especially the UVB rays which are the sun burn ones which can cause skin cancers. Do remember though that the UVA rays are still very prevalent and even if you are in the shade, do still wear sun protection.
