Part 1: Methods used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed solution
Evaluating the effectiveness of a program and its proposed solution is a key step towards ensuring that it meets the set goals and objectives by its developers. There are different methods used in the evaluation, but each depends on the nature and scope of the program (Jossey, 2010). One of the methods entails the collection of qualitative data or quantitative data from the participants of the program. Qualitative data can be collected through interviews, focus groups, or narrative stories whereas quantitative data can be gathered through numerical survey techniques. In the proposed solutions, it is necessary to utilize both methods of data collection for the evaluation. It helps in finding out the long-term outcomes of behavioral change among the participants (Yarbrough, Lyn, Shulha, Rodney & Caruthers, 2011). Since some of the children cannot participate in the evaluation, the parents can assist in providing the required information.
Variables to be assessed when evaluating the program outcomes
An outcome is the state of the target population that a program is expected to have changed within a specified period. In the assessment of the effectiveness of the Obesity and physical activity in school age children 5-18 years program, there are specific variables to examine. One is the number of cases reported on the diagnosis list of children with suspected overweight or obese condition. The early diagnosis of obese cases helps in reducing the risk of developing other problems (CDC, 2014). Another variable is the nature of the diet taken by those who participated in the program. It should be different from the former diet before the intervention. The other variable to check on is the type of lifestyles and behaviors adopted by the participating children after the intervention. The nature of the lifestyles is a major contributor to obesity. Another assessment variable to use is the number of obese children reported having used medications or the surgery option in handling their body weight conditions. In addition, the level of familiarizing with the information about effective ways of dealing with obesity can also be a variable used in assessing the effectiveness of the program outcomes.
Tools necessary to educate the project participants
For a project to be successful, the participants have to be fully aware of the goals, objectives, and expectations from the project. Thus, the project implementation team has to devise effective ways of educating the participants. Among the tools used is raising awareness through workshops in the target population, use of experience sharing, as well as promoting local participation. Workshops are effective in facilitating training sessions regarding obesity. Though all the school age children cannot participate, their parents and guardians can pass on the information to them. Experience sharing involves the use of testimonies from other people who had similar health conditions but later worked on them through the proposed solutions. The other tool to use is the media and the available institutions, printed materials, videos, billboards, and school programs having information about ways of handling obesity. Youth clubs and forums can also be organized with the help of the local authorities, religious leaders, and the community members. The use of the mass media is effective in reaching out to many participants within a short time.
Assessment tools necessary for developing the evaluation plan
The use of surveys as evaluation tools is an effective way of assessing the effectiveness of the program. The surveys can be in the form of questionnaires either open ended or closed having all the intervention techniques used in handling obesity. The other form of surveys is in the form of interviews that can be formal or informal with an aim of gathering information about the effects of the proposed solutions in handling obesity. Surveys that are conducted with close supervision are very effective in reporting the actual state of a program intervention. The other tool to use in the assessment is BMI measurements of the participants. It helps in comparing the height and weight measurements of the participants. It has the classifications of whether an individual is thin, normal or obese. Hence, BMIs are effective tools of in the program evaluation. Another assessment tool is the waist circumference measurement for the children aged above 17 years. In addition, the assessment can also be undertaken by use of data comparisons between the pre-and post- program intervention in order to evaluate the level of change. Through proper data analysis, it is possible to find out whether the proposed solutions were effective.
Part 2: Dissemination of Evidence
Dissemination is the targeted circulation of the information and the intervention methods to a particular public health practitioner or audience. Effective communication and active distribution of evidence to all the stakeholders and audiences in an easy format for understanding is very important. It facilitates increased awareness, consideration, adoption, and the use of the evidence to accomplish the mission of the organization (AHRC, 2013).
Developing a dissemination plan requires that the team involved meet certain conditions. The plan should describe the project context and objectives as well as highlighting both the short and long term goals. The next requirement is identifying the target audience and the best way of disseminating the evidence to each. It should also have the tools and methods used a well as the staff and resources required. Lastly, there should be measurable criteria for evaluating the results related to the evidence dissemination throughout the process (AHRC, 2013).
After successful implementation and evaluation of the proposed solution in handling obesity, the project team should present the results obtained by the key stakeholders and the greater nursing community. It facilitates informed decision-making regarding how to deal with obesity among the school age children. Effective passage of information on the findings ensures that the benefits of the projects to the community are realized by incorporating the recommendations in the community health programs. The most efficient forms of disseminating the evidence are as described:

The use of well-written reports about the findings of the project is an effective way of evidence dissemination. The reports should have all the details regarding the problem identified and the ways of dealing with it in order to have an impact on decision-making. The reports can be prepared in schedules such that a preliminary report is prepared to allow for suggestions and corrections before having the final report.
The other evidence dissemination tool is the use of presentations inform of workshops and trainings to the relevant stakeholders and the entire nursing community. They can be prepared as a summary of the findings in the form of power point presentations and then employ a facilitator to elaborate on the key issues. They are effective when they incorporate both illustrations and text in the descriptions.
The other common form of evidence dissemination is the use of posters. Posters can be printed having detailed information about the project findings and then distributed to the stakeholders. The format and design used in producing them should offer an easy means of passing the intended information. The format used should also address the major issues in the best way possible to the target audience to avoid making vague conclusions (Halligan, 2008).
The media is also an effective tool in evidence dissemination but only with the consent of the affected stakeholders. The use of mass media helps in passing the information to the entire nursing fraternity in the short time and over a large population. However, the language used has to be understandable by all the target stakeholders and audience. The appearance of the evidence on the media requires being reader friendly and straight to the point.
