Mentioned above are some of the features of MS Word among hundreds of other features. As mentioned in above listed feature that the chances for the damage of a word document is very less, which means its documents are not completely ...
... away from damage. A word file can be damaged any time due to so many reasons including virus infection, power sabotage, abrupt exiting of Word, internal software errors, etc.
Accepting the fact that a .doc file can be damaged, Microsoft has embedded a feature in MS Word to automatically repair the Word file whenever it senses any corruption in the file. For example, while working on a document, your system suddenly goes down and thereby MS Word gets closed. Next time when you start MS Word, browse the file to open, MS Word takes some time in processing the file. In fact, the Word application repairs the file during that processing. However, it may also happen that Word rejects to open the file and display some sort of error messages indicating corruption in the browsed file. In that scenario, you can force the MS Word to repair the required file. Following are the steps that help you manually activate the Open and Repair feature of MS Word for repairing the damaged Word document:
1.Start Microsoft Word.
2.Select Open in the File menu (in Word 2003 or earlier) or Click Microsoft Office button and select Open (in Word 2007).
3.Browse the file that you want to repair.
4.Click the down arrow beside the Open button after selecting the file.
5.Select the Open and Repair option. MS Word starts repairing the document.
This way one can repair word file. However, if the corruption is major then the Open and Repair feature might not work. In that situation, you may need to use a third-party tool to repair word file.
