Spring is almost upon us, and for many that means a trip to Western Australia to experience the beautiful wildflower season. WA is internationally known for its wildflowers, with more than 12,000 species of which over 60% are not found anywhere else on earth. From the northern fields of colours and everlastings to the southern tree flowers and Orchids – there is so much to explore. For some visitors it is possible to get out into for an extended tour – however for those with less time there are plenty of spots a short drive from Perth that allow visitors to experience the beauty of blooms.

The Victoria Plane – New Norcia

Situated 132 km north of Perth, New Norcia is a comfortable 2 hour drive from Perth. The town itself offers visitors a picturesque landscape, a rich history and delightful food. The region that surrounds the town can be perfect in September for spotting wildflowers. The search begins by heading out into the Moore River National Park, where you may be lucky enough to spot some Blue Leschenaultia and Orchids.

Bindoon Wildflower Festival

From the 15th to the 17th September ...
... this year the Shire of Chittering will be celebrating Wildflowers and spring at their “Spring Flower Festival.” A short hour drive from Perth, the Chittering Valley is situated in the Darling Range and offers visitors bushlands, wetlands, vineyards, orchards and stunning scenery. In Spring the valley blooms, and the town celebrates with a weekend of market stalls, demonstrations, exhibitions and much more.

Bibbulmun Track

The Bibbulmun Track stretches 1000 kilometers from the Perth Hills to Albany on the south coast. During springtime the Bibbulmun attracts more than hikers, with wildflower hunters coming in search of tree flowers and Orchids. Make a day of it by packing a lunch and heading off on the track in search of wildflowers, enjoy the peacefulness of the bush and perhaps even spot a kangaroo! There are many sections of the Track within easy drive from Perth, the difficult part is choosing which section to tackle.

Araluen Botanical Park

A short 35 Km south-east of the Perth CBD, Araluen Botanic Park is one location where flowers are virtually guaranteed! While wildflowers might not be in abundance, the 59 hectares of developed gardens feature a diverse range of exotic and native species of plants – sure to delight any nature enthusiast. In August and September the park’s Tulips bloom, making this a particularly special time to visit. This year the park boasts over 140,000 tulips, spend the day enjoying these gorgeous flowers, enjoy lunch at the onsite café or pack your own picnic lunch.
