The Everest Base Camp Trek Is For You Only If You Are Super Fit

Let’s face it. Everest Base Camp Trek is not a walk in the garden! It is a complex Trek and it requires a particular level of fitness.
But we are not here to dishearten you or tell you, you cannot do it at all.
We are just reminding you, you need to be fit, not athletic-fit to be able to do the EBC Trek. Instead, even if you are not a fitness freak, do not exercise regularly, or go to a gym, you can still do the Everest High Passes Trek.
The
Everest Base Camp trek Trek takes anywhere between 12 to 20 days which means there are enough days for acclimatization which makes the trek a comfortable journey. Having a flexible itinerary with enough days for acclimatization makes trekking an enjoyable experience and a memorable on e too.
So if you are reasonably fit, can walk for 4 to 6 hours a day with regular breaks in between, do not have a knee or an ankle issue or a lung or a heart disease, you are good to go for the Everest High Passes Trek.
Other things that make the Everest Base Camp Trek not so complicated are ...
... there are enough porters and guides to not just guide you through the right direction and at the right time but also to carry your heavy backpacks. However, ensure you still do not carry unnecessary luggage that can make the bags too heavy for the very human porters as well. It is suggested that you leave all the unnecessary stuff at the guest house or the hotel in Kathhmandu.
Preparing for the Everest Base Camp Trek
Just like any other trek requires a trekker to prepare months in advance, the EBC Trek requires it too. Ideally the preparations can be done two months prior to starting the trek and they can involve the following:
• Start with a regular fitness regime such as cycling and swimming.
• Ensure you have a well-planned healthy diet on a regular basis. You can choose to get a diet plan after meeting a qualified dietician.
• Try and use the stairs and ditch the elevators as much as you can. Climb flights of stairs of tall building, all at a stretch.
• Once or twice a week, take a long walk, as long as is comfortable.
• Take up long runs once or twice a week.
• Go to a place that requires ascending and descending several times. It can be an adventure sport too.
• If you are a regular with Yoga, you can make it a point to concentrate on and practice more the breathing exercises.
• If you get a chance, participate in local marathons that can be anywhere between 5 kilometers to 14 kilometers. It will give you a very sparse idea of what to expect on the trek.
As you must have heard it a million times before, ‘It’s not about the body, it’s all in the mind’ and mind game it is! Preparing for any trek (especially for the one to the highest mountain on the planet) needs more mental preparation than the physical one. One needs to be mentally prepared to get accustomed to a new lifestyle in the mountains, acclimatizing to four different seasons in the trek of 12 days, to the food, to long arduous walks and finally to never say die!
On a final note, you really do not have to be marathon fit to do the Everest High Passes Trek
. Just paying a little attention to your fitness regime in advance can do the trick!
