Introduction to Scholarly Writing: Finding a Scholarly Voice
My subject of interest was how to establish a scholarly voice in my writing. So my idea was to search the EBSCO database and typed the keywords scholarly voices. I selected the PDF document on Introduction to Scholarly Writing: Finding a Scholarly Voice. This article reinforces media program information and discusses ways of findings your scholarly voice. Since I did not know the Bibliographic data of the article, I choose to advance search using words from the title or the author; name. I also narrowed the subject field to writing and did not go for any option. In locating the peer review article, I had to select on the peer review options tab for easy location.
I would recommend the EBSCOhost database an. I would recommend the database because it supports the technology and its discovery technologies to my peer. It is a commonly used database to its end users and has a strong user experience that supports fast access and easy use of information.

Summary
This document reinforces the information presented in ...
... the media program and provides information about how to find your scholarly voice.
Strengths
The main strengths of this article are that it talks about the misconceptions of effective scholarly voice. This misconception is that the strength of scholarly voice is by the number of words in sentences, letters in a word and sentences within a paragraph. It means that in effectively presenting a scholarly voice there is a need to eliminate, redundant, pompous, bloated, ignorant, delusional and preposterous words and sentences (Salager-Meyer, 2011). The article also presents the strategies of generating the scholarly voice that is through first figuring what I have to say before saying it. The other strength is the strategy of writing clear, concise and appropriate words and sentences. Here, I learn that there is no need of impressing the reader with polysyllabic fluff. It is also important to rely on evidence from research and not on my strong feelings towards a subject. Also, I have to ensure to use good spelling and grammar. I need to realize that finding this scholarly voice in writing is a process.
Weakness
This article is very brief. I also lack citation to show studies that talk about scholarly writing. The author also fails to show how scholarly writing is a type of writing and not a level of writing. I do not agree with the point that scholarly writing is a process because this shows that it is more of a level of writing than a type of writing.
Locating research articles
The first step in finding research articles from Walden University is by logging in to the site. After that, one needs to choose the database that is categorized according to fields and subjects of study. Select whether the article is a peer review or not. Enter the name of the author or the title of the article if it’s known. If not, type the keywords. The date of publication is also essential so as to select the most recent and relevant article.
Colleagues’ positing
From my colleagues posting I learn that it is possible to compare two articles so as to know their weaknesses and strengths. Similar or related articles on the same subjects are generated in a list when searching for a peer-review article in a database. Some issues in an article might not be present in the other (Trott, 2013). For example this article on finding a scholarly voice fails to show that including careful citations and biography list is an essential aspect of finding the scholarly voice. This idea is true. It is because, throughout my writing experience, I ensure to cite ideas from authors and acknowledge them in my writing (Instructions to Authors, 2013: Zabel, 2006).
