I agree that unless humans adopt a different growth path, the pollution and depletion of natural capital will destroy the human race. In addition, there are numerous efforts to develop energy efficient machines and to source renewable sources of energy. They enjoy certain “rights” that an ordinary person cannot enjoy due to their influence on the social, economic and political structures and processes. These corporate use their “right to speech” to influence political processes and the election of their favorite candidates. Through campaign funding and interest groups, they influence the course of public policies. They use their lobbying power to push laws that protect their interest. According to Hawken, Natural Capital refers to all the resources human beings use to sustain life including the natural resources such as fossil fuel, air and water and other living and non-living structures and systems.
Natural capitalism is the sustainable use of these natural resources and the ecosystem to sustain the global economy and the industrial growth. Hawken proposes a model of the economy that acknowledge the interdependency between the production and use of human capital and the sustainable maintenance of the natural capital. The economy model envisions a situation where there is the minimal destruction of natural resources, minimal emission of greenhouse gasses, minimal destruction of forest and the preservation of biodiversity.

The documentary 11th –Hour explores the current situation in which human beings have destroyed the environment. It looks at what we as human beings have done to be at the current state. It was insightful to learn from the movie how seemingly un-harmful activities such as rearing of livestock can contribute to environmental changes. The narrator use inputs from specialists to explain how exploitation, industrialization, globalization and over population have polluted the air, destroyed seas and degraded the soil. It is true the 11th hour has come when everyone needs to change how they interact with nature to avoid further destruction.
