4 Ways To Get Street Photography Right
The art of street photography has its own niche. Very often in the public space, one will usually spot photographers angling their camera at every nook and corner, documenting society’s day to day lives. While some take it as a hobby, others pursue it very passionately. So passionately that some of them join one of the top photography institutes in India and make it a career. But what makes one a street photographer? What is the essence behind it? Let’s take a look.
Capturing emotions
A Man crossing a street, children playing on a field and a stray dog lazing around. Everyday things, right? Street photography isn’t just capturing random images on the streets. The photos should evoke emotions and convey a story that nobody has to explain. A couple smiling at each other while enjoying the fireworks of the new year? That’s more like it.
Attention to detail
Paying attention to detail has its own perks. The more distinctive the photo is, the more interest it generates. On the streets, one has ample time to look around, observe and scan everything that is happening and thus, helps in focusing on ...
... small details. It could be only a headshot, the hands, feet, a nose ring or any form of jewellery. Focusing on such details instead of covering the whole body creates a mystery in the minds of the viewer.
Getting the colours and symmetry right
It is always essential to have a sense of symmetry before clicking a photograph. The angle at which one clicks a photograph could be a deal breaker in terms of an audience liking or disliking it. The same goes for colours. A dark background or a very light object-to-be-clicked might ruin the quality of the photo. Unlike other ways of photography, you might not get multiple chances to click the same frame.
Urban Landscape
Landscapes embody a lot of human history throughout time. Think about the iconic Ferris wheel in Chernobyl or the Taj Mahal. Their structural integrity, that stood the test of time, tells the story of itself and its surrounding. The same principle can be applied in the streets. By looking at the pictures of an old building or an iconic eatery, one can invoke the feelings of emotion and nostalgia among its viewers.
These are the characteristics that capture the essence of street photography. The aspiring photographers, who want to further indulge themselves in this artistic world of street photography, can enroll themselves in the best photography institutes in India. After all, the best way to acquire these skills is to hone them!
