Introduction
Real-world software engineers handle complex issues. There should be senior-level software engineering courses to give learners the capability to handle large and complex software engineering tasks. There should also be real-world projects to students with the use of open source approach so as to help them have an in-depth insight on the same.
There has been the outsourcing of software engineering jobs to lower waged nations and that has been raising concerns both in industries and in academia. There is a need for the strengthening of the competitiveness of the software engineers that exist in developed countries, mostly the recent graduates and that can help alleviate the problem. Education is indispensable in nurturing software engineering students and to help them have necessary skills in applying software engineering techniques in real-world projects. The Software Design and Development project course, CS456/556 offered in Ohio University is being instrumental in the development of large service learning SE projects.

There is a hope that the GROw scheme will aid SEEd to give software engineering students a solid foundation that can equate to the experience of other engineering disciplines.
