3 Branches Of Indian Airforce You Need To Know About

If you have started preparing for preparing for Indian Air Force Recruitment 2019 exams, then you surely have compiled all the required study material for the job. But somehow, there still seems to be a confusion over the nature of jobs one could aim for to work in Indian Air force. So to help you get rid of the confusion, let us have a look over the 3 branches, along with some sub-branches, that you could go for if “Touching sky with glory” has always been your dream.
1.Ground Duty
The ground duty staff of Indian Air Force is responsible for carrying on logistics, accounts, metrological, and all the other non-combat related activities that help in managing Air force. It is further sub-divided into 5 branches which are:
A.Administration Branch
Responsible for managing both human material resources of the Indian Air Force. Administrative branch is also responsible for Air Traffic Control and Fighter Control.
B.Logistics Branch

C.Accounts Branch
Responsible for managing funds, finances, and accounts of Indian Air Force
D.Education Branch
Responsible for imparting education and training to the new Air Force candidates. The nature of the training would range from teaching theoretical and technical skills to combat ones.
E.Meteorology Branch
Responsible for managing all the satellite imagery and other equipment designed to study and observe weather conditions.
All these sub-branches are of permanent and short service type, while the educational qualifications for each of these vary from each other. Male candidates have the option of choosing between permanent and short service commission. While the option is limited to SSC for female candidates.
2.Technical Duty
This branch concerns itself with upkeeping of aircraft and other technical instruments and equipment. The other technical instruments include vehicles, which could range from an 8000cc army truck to manually powered bicycle. Candidates have to clear AFCAT for getting themselves into the technical staff. Once in, you would be entrusted with some of the most sophisticated machinery built of modern science. There are two Engineering branches in technical duty:
Mechanical (Aeronautical) Engineering
Mechanical Engineers have to focus mainly on jet engines, tools, and other machinery.
Electronics (Aeronautical) Engineering
Officers in Electronic engineering branch focus mainly on components like Air Craft radars.
3.Flying Branch
Flying branch officers are the ones who get to sit in and fly the war machines; fighter jets. One can join flying branch in both the commissions; i.e, permanent and short service.
Permanent Commission in Flying Branch
To join flying branch in permanent commission, candidates have to clear either of the below-mentioned exams:
NDA
Age – 16 ½ to 19 ½ years
Educational Qualifications – 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics
CDSE
Age – 20 to 24 years
Educational Qualifications: have studied Physics and Math at 10+2 level along with any graduate degree
NCC Special Entry
Age –20 to 24 years
Educational Qualifications: minimum 60% marks in any graduate degree with Physics and Math at 10+2
Short Service Commission in Flying Branch
To join flying branch via SSC, candidates first need to clear AFCAT.
Age – 20 to 24 years
Educational Qualifications:60% marks and having studied Physics and Math at 10+2 level
