There are more than 10,000 businesses that have already committed to UNGC and the number is growing every year. These 13,000 business come from more than 160 countries. Till date, more than 60,000 reports have been issued by these companies to UNGC. It has emerged as the leading and the largest sustainability programmes globally. Several companies from the middle east have also committed to UNGC. The UNGC came into existence in the year 2,000 about 20 years ago. Last month the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the UNGC declared that they would continue to partner over developing evading practices for ESG reporting for corporates and business, in order to enable them to work towards achieving sustainable development goals. Both the GRI and UNGC formed a platform called as action platform on reporting on the Sustainable Development Goals about two years ago. Since the platform was launched both GRI and UNGC have together increases awareness regarding the need of monitoring and reporting corporate’s contribution towards meeting the 2030 agenda for sustainable development. The platform has already come out with three publications and related tools to measure and report performance. Integration of the sustainable development goals into non-financial reporting serves as dual purpose as it can be used to inform stakeholders on your sustainability performance and also serve as communication to the UNGC.
