Chinese herbal medicine in Houston is the herbal treatment where different types of herbs are used for the treat various illness and maintain sound health. Chinese have always believed that there is life energy referred to as ‘qi’ that flows inside the human body through various channels and is also responsible for sound health. Even though there are no scientifically proved evidence to support the philosophy, but herbal medicines have been treating a range of human disorders.

How does Chinese herbal medicine work?

The life energy ‘qi’, which is pronounced as ‘chee’, is further divided into two components ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’. The invisible channels inside the body are referred as meridian through which ‘qi’ flows. Some of the organs and meridians are governed by ‘Yin’, while other organs and meridians are governed by ‘Yang’. The imbalance between ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’ causes the disorders and poor health condition the body. ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’ are further divided into hot and cold, interior and exterior, deficiency and excess, which help the practitioners to diagnose the cause ...
... of illness and provide treatment accordingly.

The most common herbs

Chinese herbal medicine in Houston uses numerous herbs to treat different disorders, but some of the common herbs are:

Ephedra (Ma Huang)

It is a ‘warming’ herb and is used by the practitioners when the coldness is diagnosed in the body. Though this herb suffered the ban because of its improper use without medical guidance, but Chinese medicine practitioner advocates its effectiveness in treating asthma.

Aconite (Fu Zi)

This is another herb of Chinese medicine in Houston, which should be available on the prescription of the professional practitioners and also require proper preparation. It can cure chronic pain that are caused by the ‘cold’ factor in the body but may prove fatal if the dose is even bit higher than the therapeutic dose.

Licorice (Gan Cao)

This is the most commonly used herb of Chinese herbal medicine in Houston and known for its sweet nature. It is used by the practitioners in a number of medicinal formulas to reduce the potential effects of strong herbs. Licorice can increase potassium excretion and decrease sodium excretion and is overall considered a safe herb.

Panax Ginseng (Ren Shen)

It is the energy booster and the immune system enhancer and therefore can quickly treat fatigue. But again it has its benefits only if it is used under the guidance of practitioners because its overdose may cause hypertension, headache, insomnia, and rashes. Also, if not prepared properly, it may be difficult by the body to digest the herb causing constipation, loss of appetite or other gastrointestinal discomforts.

Rhubarb Root/Rhizome (Da Huang)

This herb is used in cases of ‘excess heat’ and ‘blood stagnation,’ but it may also cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, and cramping because of its laxative effects. It is, therefore, must be used after boiling for at least an hour to reduce its potential effect.

Chinese herbal medicine in Houston uses these herbs in various forms such as powders, syrups, and liniments, which is decided by the practitioner after diagnosis.
