Learn the ABC of the ABC (Annapurna Base Camp) Trek
If you have set your mind on trekking the famous Annapurna Base Camp Trek, also popularly called the ABC Trek, get ready to enjoy some of the most spectacular views on the way.
The Annapurna Base Camp remains the most popular trekking destination across Nepal, for both solo, as well as, group trekkers. Two-third of all the trekkers visiting the region comes to visit the ABC Camp. It is also one of the easiest treks in Nepal. Trekking the Annapurna Base Camp requires a special ACAP entry permit, since it is located inside the Annapurna Conservation Area.
Annapurna Base Camp Trek—the different routes
There are different routes that can be taken to reach the Annapurna Base Camp. The trekkers can either choose to directly head to the Annapurna Base Camp or they can take a detour to Ghandruk or Ghorepani-Poon Hill or both. The other popular views on the popular trek trail include the following: Annapurna South (7219m), Machhapuchhre (6993m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Hiunchuli (6441m), Baraha Sikhar or FANG (7647m), Tukuche (6920m), Nilgiri South (6839m). All of these present magnificent views and complete the famous Annapurna Base Camp Trek.
A standard route from Pokhara to reach the Annapurna Base Camp takes about 11 days but if the trekkers do not have enough time, they can take an alternate route and complete the trek in just 8 days. The choice of route directly affects the Annapurna Base Camp Trek Cost.
Accommodation and Transportation
The common accommodations available on the ABC Trek include guest houses, lodges and tea houses. While these are not luxurious, they are comfortable and have basic furniture like a bed or two. If you are lucky, you might also get an attached bathroom with other facilities. You can also choose to book home stays if you wish to enjoy the local food, culture and lifestyle.
The local transportation available is Bus. You can use this to drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. Another alternative to reach Pokhara is by flight. While a flight from Kathmandu takes about 20 to 25 minutes to reach Pokhara, a tourist bus takes approximately 7 hours to cover the same distance. If shelling out an extra amount is not an issue, you can also hire a private car or jeep for transportation.

• The journey to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek starts from Pokhara city in Nepal. It is popularly called the city of lakes too.
• The trek takes you to the Annapurna South base camp.
• The Annapurna Base Camp Trek allows the trekkers to enjoy two different base camps-the Annapurna Base Camp and the Machhapuchhre Base Camp.
• The entire route of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is inhabited which means the trekkers get a chance to get a close encounter with the culture and lifestyle of the place plus enjoy the teahouse trekking that is unique to the place.
• If you are trekking the trail to enjoy some solitude and peace, it is not the right trek for you! The ABC trek trail can get very crowded, especially during the popular trekking season.
